Undercurrent (2018)
Surrounding us there is a constantly vibrating field of energy. These vibrations can be caught within shapes of space and frequencies of time to form patterns that communicate. Undercurrent attempts to bring these subtle movements, and their potential relationships, into our field of focus.
The rooms of A — DASH become an expanded instrument. Suspended piano wire, acoustically and electromagnetically amplified, emphasizes the geometry of the room. The harmonic relationships of these tones become visual patterns, through mirrors, speakers, and light. While the noise of the city activates and plays the suspended wires, rhythms from nature sound within the installation furniture. Visitors are invited to lie on the benches and experience listening through the ear, body, and eye.
Installation in A-Dash, Athens, Greece
Harmonograph (2014)
The harmonograph visualizes frequency relationships through creating drawings from the action of three interacting pendulums. This harmonograph table is constructed from reclaimed Chicago yellow pine and was constructed at the ACRE residency in Wisconsin and in Chicago in collaboration with artist Milad Mozari. In situ, the work creates a space of mesmerization with an accompanying soundscape of three simultaneously playing locked looped records (Rounds, also a collaborative work with Milad Mozari and Michael Milano).
Installation in ACRE Projects Gallery, Chicago, USA
Forest of Sound (2019)
In Forest of Sound, visitors are invited to contemplate the sounds of the world beneath sculptural trees (in collaboration with artist Anastasia Douka) inspired by the oracle of Dodona, hung with various sounding objects: bells, leaves, and household objects. Interaction with these objects will allow for the musical transformation of field recordings (a harmony of insects, birds, rustling leaves, rivers, dogs, city scapes, bells, etc) gathered from diverse environments around the world. Following a musical performance by the artists, visitors are invited to play and create sound worlds for themselves.
Installation at Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens, Greece
